The epitome of Hakka Confucian culture: Guanlan Classical Academy

Guangdong Province is home to many historical landmarks and cultural sites. One of these is the Guanlan Classical Academy, located in the Daqiao Township of the Ruyuan County. It was originally created as a school to teach Confucianism to local pupils during the reign of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty.

Guanlan Classical Academy was established by Xu Jingfa, a 14th generation tributary of the Xu clan. There were just a few hundred households in the town at the time, but there were many talented people due to the Hakka Confucian culture. The academy produced more than 150 scholars and dozens of officials. According to Xu’s genealogy.

It is an excellent example of traditional Chinese architecture and design. The academy has stood the test of time and remains a popular destination for tourists and locals alike.

If you are planning a trip to the Ruyuan County, a visit to the Guanlan Classical Academy is a must. The academy is open to the public and offers guided tours to visitors. During your visit, you can explore the academy’s beautiful halls, learn about its history, and gain a deeper appreciation for Confucianism and Chinese culture.

In addition to the academy itself, the surrounding area is also worth exploring. Daqiao Township is known for its beautiful mountain scenery and ancient villages, providing an excellent opportunity to experience rural life in southern China.
